Wild Grace Chardonnay

Hawke's Bay

Kim Crawford Wild Grace Chardonnay

The Small Parcels Wild Grace Chardonnay is named for the rugged beauty of the landscape surrounding our Hawke's Bay vineyards, as well as the complexity and elegance of this wild-fermented Chardonnay.

Wild Grace is composed from our estate Airstrip Vineyard surrounding our Hawke's Bay winery. Located on the red metal soils right at the tip of the esteemed Bridge Pa Triangle subregion, mature clone 95, 96, and 15 vines produce moderate yields of concentrated fruit with predominantly citrus fruit flavors.

Hand-harvesting and gentle whole bunch pressing resulted in an elegant, silky wine. The free-run portion of the juice was transferred directly to barrel with no settling. Fermentation was allowed to occur spontaneously without the addition of cultured yeast. One hundred percent of the wine underwent malolactic fermentation and remained on fermentation lees, with periodic stirring, until blending. The wine matured in French oak barriques for 10 months for further complexity and texture.

Tasting Notes

Aroma: Mid-straw in appearance, this elegant Chardonnay displays a compelling and complex nose showing white peach, citrus, and nutty characters.

Palate: The palate is long and weighty with layers of complex citrus fruit and a long, toasty finish.
